Hi,

I have just received my HHKB Pro 2, the production date is Dec,2015. The sound and keyfeel of overall board are slightly different, is this normal for topre case mounted ? My left shift seems to produce more thock sound than other keys and yet feels more scratchy. The enter key seems very quiet and does not produce any sound unless it has been pressed and release rapidly on purpose.

My previous topre board was the Novatouch with Thick PBT caps, and since i moved to HHKB it redefined my definition towards topre; eventhough both are 45g topre but i do realize the steadiness and key feel of the HHKB is a whole lot better like its completely different switch. However, the novatouch it produce the same (or at least 90% identical) thock sound throughout the board, and HHKB does not.. is this common? especially the left shift key.

I got this HHKB in exchange of my Novatouch+cash, and it was in mint condition.. no dust or whatsoever.

Where abouts on the key do you press? I know my board sounds slightly different depending on which bit of the key I press on.

Mine is the most expensive board that I have ever purchased too. However, to lube the board and to put hyperspheres on it was the best decision I have ever done. It is easier than you think it is.

Sounds like shoddy production quality, and the "lubing" / "rings" workaround is an attempt to hide it.

can you name even one board that has all keys sounding the same? no you can not
also, it's pretty much guaranteed to have stabilized keys that sound and feel quite different from the rest.
the difference is probably more notable on the hhkb because it has a very distinct sound

  • because reasons.......
I would check to see if it was opened up before. It's possible the domes are just slightly misaligned.

And no this isn't normal, you shouldn't have to lube it or anything else.

One thing I do like to do is put some folded up drawer liner between the HHKB and my desk but I do something similar with ally keyboards.
