Laptop Cable Management
« on: Sat, 02 July 2016, 08:21:12 »
How do you guys do it?

Currently using a 12" usb cable that's both short enough to use with my board on top of the computer and long enough for a standing desk type setup, but finding cable management to be a mess.

Any use ultra short cables? Or is there some system out there I don't know about? ... yeah yeah bluetooth but come on!

What issues are you having with cable management? I have an eyelet on the corner of my desk where I snake everything through (charger, mouse, keyboard), but if I'm out and about, I use a retractable usb cable. Although..if you need to move your stuff around a ton, I find having velcro ties  or having your work use cables sleeved together helps keep down on the clutter, or at least keep it somewhat at bay. I also have it sorta taped down so it stays in one place.

And about your standing desk, is your laptop always in one place on the desk? It might be easier to run a cable underneath the desk that connects your power.

E: Laptop, not tower.

Cable management is always a nightmare.  My tower had ample space for extra cable length and this solved many problems.  As was suggested the cables can be run through an eye drilled in the desk, or you may find zip-ties useful.  In many instances I have wrapped the cord against itself to make it the perfect length to where it needs to be so there is no excess cable length.

zcmy, I work mostly with my board sitting directly ontop of my keyboards laptop. Not a problem most of the time until all the loose cable catches on something or swings into something.

A retractable cable is a great idea, looking into some now!
