Greetings from long time lurker
« on: Mon, 25 July 2016, 10:08:17 »
Hey I've lurked around the forums on and off for around a year. I figured it was finally time to join it.

My first mechanic was a corsair k90 that I got years ago and have a rosewill red switch for my console systems. Ive been thinking about getting a poker 3 or more likely one of those diy 60% sets, have never done any soldering before so that seems like it will be fun.

Been super into some of the artisan keycaps and I'm sure actually joining this site will just make it that much worst haha

What's your favorite artisan? Joining won't make the need any better.

I'm a huge star wars fan, so I gotta have all of hidden powers stuff. Love the reapers and jolly rogers from bro caps too. Lots of great artisans here though

Welcome to Geekhack!

Lurking for a year's not long - there have been people who joined 3 or 4 years ago and never posted

There's the GH60 (designed here!) if you're interested, plenty of support for it here too, considering :))

Soldering's not that difficult, once you get the hang of it, it just gets repetitive.  If you can find an old broken electronics device, like a DVD player or something, and just practice desoldering and resoldering the components off it - plenty of practice and no worries if you break it as it's broken already.

There's also the living soldering thread with probably too much information in it by now.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks!

That was one of the pcbs I was looking at.

True, I'm sure I have some kind of old electronics I can mess around with. Haha yeah I saw that thread and spent a couple hours going through it!
