The new SMK 85 is here!
« on: Wed, 19 September 2007, 12:16:09 »
The Strongman SMK 85 is here and I am typing on it now (for the first time). I already pulled a key cap off and it has black Alps sliders. The action is much like my Apple Alps model, but this one is about as loud as the Model M, in fact maybe a bit louder. I am not used to typing on it yet, but I have  a feeling I'll love this one the most. The all black keyboard with the all black Alps sliders, tactile feeling is great but I really can't say that much about it until I put a few days in on it. So far, it looks good and it types good and fast with not much to get used to.

And check out the size of that enter key.

Here's some pics to get you started:

And here is the label for those of you who like that sort of thing

This is a nice keyboard - it feels well constructed and solid. It is also quite heavy and there is no creaking of any of the other little sounds that make electronics feel cheep. So far, though it has been only minutes, I like this keyboard a lot.

Very cool!

Personally, I don't like the "reverse L" enter key...but it sounds like that is a bonus for you.  Look forward to hearing how you like the keyboards as you get some time logged on it.

I'm in Dubai this week and I have to say that not having a decent keyboard around is KILLING ME.  :)

I have a feeling this keyboard is really geared toward writers. iMav's comment on the placement of the pipe key got me thinking about that. What writers will really like about this 'board is the placement of the forward delete key, I am used to the return the way it is from my Apple clickies, and the huge backspace key is quite nice to. Plus, this 'board gives me a feeling of comfort and I love typing on it because of the action.

It's the second day and I am still really impressed. I'll have my HHKB Pro 2 next week, so we'll see what happens then.

Hmm, looks interesting. Too bad manufacturer gone bankrupt in 2008. Got one of Strong Man older keyboards yesterday, but it is not so pretty :)

I wonder if anyone has one of those to sell on ebay...

Holy **** snacks.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
