2015 marked the 40th anniversary of Sanyo Shinkansen's completion inauguration, as well as the 20th anniversary of the start of the Evangelion TV series. To celebrate this double anniversary, the Shinkansen Evangelion Project was launched in November 2015.

Created under the supervision of Mr. Hideaki Anno, Director of Evangelion, and designed by Mr. Ikuto Yama****a, Evangelion's mechanical designer, this special 500 Series Shinkansen is now in service and is planned to operate from 2015 through the Spring of 2018 to commemorate the Shinkansen and Evangelion’s shared 40th and 20th Anniversaries.

Manufactured under license, this special N Scale 8-Car Shinkansen Train Set from Kato mimics the distinct paint of the prototype Shinkansen, and comes in a special bookcase featuring unique art by Mr. Ikuto Yama****a. This set is being sold in the US under strict license and exclusively through the Kato USA online store and only in limited quantities! Orders will be taken through October 31st for delivery in early February 2017! This item is a limited exclusive in Japan and is a one-time deal and will not be offered again in the US.
