Help! Issues with my Leopold FC750R

First, I am concerned with some differences between the Leopold 750R I just got from MK Inc and someone else's posted online, although both seem to be the same white linear (red) model.

1. Two boxes are not identical.




2. Mine doesn't have this bevel or antislip pads near the bottom edge at the back, while the other one does have this nice feature that provides additional slip resistance when the feet are unfolded, and that's how I use every keyboard I got.




I wonder why are these differences there. Is that due to the various versions? But it has "FC750-V2 Ver 1.0 2016/6/14" on the green PCB, once I removed the space bar, then I assume it's the production date, which doesn't seem to be outdated.

There is this annoying ping issue from certain keys, such as esc, 1!, 3#, W, S, |\, }] and the space bar. I squeezed some lube into these tiny gaps between the switches and upper switch cases, which improved the condition a bit. Then these keys became significantly squashier/heavier. I can't replace these keys by removing the upper case, or it will void the warranty. And I am not entirely sure if I want to return it, as I'll pay the shipping cost myself, and I do enjoy typing on it while most of the time.

Any useful suggestions/attempts are greatly appreciated!

Great, 1st post has had 110 readers so far, yet no one really gives it a ****, except this meaningless "It's tiny" reply. Seems I wondered into the wrong forum. Going back to M.K.P.B there and at least I could interact with these funny ones. And I shouldn't have wasted my $8 on extra keycaps with words like "GH" by the way, if I had known this earlier. Not trying to inflame anyone, just what I thought.

Sorry that you got hit by a weird spammer. There's been an uptick of those lately. Stuff like this can take a while to get a proper response because it's not something you can just google to solve.

Ping is normal. My Filcos both do it, my KUL does it, and my  LZ CE does it (not nearly as much as the Filco though). It's especially common on boards with MX reds, as it's theorized that lighter switches do it more. Try putting a mat under the keyboard, or look into a desk mat mod.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Leopold updated the design for the 750R at some point. I remember reading that they did something similar to the 660M.

Aside from that, I don't really know anything for sure. Leopolds aren't my forefront of knowledge.

The ping is not a big deal..the fact that you've put lube into it and have changed the feel of the keys yet now think it is ok to return it is a bit of a concern. But a lot of keyboards are going to ping and it has nothing to do with the production date.

There has been at least one update on the 750r though...the first one I think was when it went from non-standard to standard spacebar...

But if this is a concern over the ping...*shrug*...If you didn't like it you probably should've returned it right away...It really is not a big deal..

One thing you might look into is if there is a liner in the one that pings...they're supposed to help and I think the 750r had them early on..not sure about now.

His should have the liner if you look closely you can see in the pic that the box says "sound adsorbing pad" underneath the headphone symbol.

Not sure about the anti-slip pads, I think they transitioned away from those as my FC980M(which just came out) doesn't have them, and my FC750R which I got a little over a year and a half ago does have the two slip pads. Of course this could just be due to them not putting that on the 980 for some reason so I can't say for sure.

As TacticleStache said your not going to get a quick reply just because it has 100 views, most of those views probably don't even own or ever used a 750r.

Personally I wouldn't return it once I've put lube into it even if it's not something they might notice before they give you your money back.

First pretty sure you voided the warranty by trying to lube switches which you can't effectively do without opening them up.

Also your description of where and what you lubed is somewhat confusing, what lube did you use and where was it put exactly?

Depending on that answer to get those switches to feel right again you'll most likely have to replace them or at a minimum desolder them and clean the insides.

In my opinion using a keyboard daily for a while to break it in helps a lot.

Also putting a rubber mat or shelf liner underneath helps as well.

There were two options:
1. Return it.
2. Try to fix it by filling lube in all the wrong places.

Since you chose option 2, option 1 is not an option anymore - at least not for a somewhat intelligent and responsible human being.

I have the newer one with the blue printing on the box, front printed keycaps, etc. Never noticed any major pinging. Very slight pings from a few keys are pretty normal in my experience with Reds. Probably should have returned it before dumping lube into the switches incorrectly if you weren't happy. Sorry man. :O
