Toshiba T1000 $33.75 + shipping
« on: Mon, 02 March 2015, 19:53:10 »
Based on most of the other Toshiba laptops around the time and the look of the caps, it should have Alps style caps.  The switches may or may not be the more common style of Alps that we use now, but the caps should be great.

It *should*, but I don't think it does. Here's a video showing one with a missing keycap (closeup at 15:00):

Holy necro batman.

This thread is so old the ebay listing no longer has working pictures.
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.

That and I'm pretty sure that's electrical tape on top of the switch with the missing cap, so it doesn't help at all.

True, but there was a pair of them listed on eBay for a very low price and I was digging around for info trying to decide whether to nab them or not. And this old thread was one of the only references to that model I could find on any of the usual suspect mech sites.

In the end I didn't bid on the latest auction, but they do pop up occasionally so it would be really interesting to have this question answered once and for all.

Wow, this brings back memories! I used one of these to run a successful BBS for several years. The forum was set up in RAMdisk, with an automatically rotating (FILO) message base—and battery backup against power outages, of course, since it was a portable—and I logged on by calling it from another line. So once it was running, I never had to touch the physical machine till years later, when I finally took it offline. Great little machines!
