Please help me identify this Industrial Grey Model M (1394950)
« on: Tue, 08 November 2016, 14:04:59 »
Hi guys, I have just received an Industrial Grey Model M for $130, the part no. is 1394950. I tried searching for this part no. but couldnt find any details on it, the closest one is 1394946 which were made around the same period. Another weird thing is that this particular one does not come with regular silver on black badge, but instead its just a flat sticker (all the pics in attachment) the sticker on its back cover is also placed upside down and labeled Made in United Kingdom. Apart from its dirtiness, everything seems to works flawlessly; most of the rivets are still in place.

Another thing I notice is the typing feel, I also have another two 1995 Model M, one 1987 Model M SSK and another Model F AT, this 1394950 Industrial M sounds deepest among all others and all the keys are really stiff, much more stiffer than other Ms in my collection.

Anyone heard of this part no. ?

Thanks for the help.

Get a picture of the inside of the LEDs panel over the numpad, see if there's extra LED light holes.

That looks like a standard M assembly transplanted into a unicomp industrial case.

did you mean this part? (attachment)

However, I managed to find more clue. I think it shares the same part no. as this one in the link
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/172303248317

and deskthority wiki mentioned "The 1394950 was an Industrial model made from 1996 on, and was largely identical to the earlier 1394946 with one distinguishing feature: Instead of the hard plastic label with raised silvered letters, it has a simple flat sticker." https://deskthority.net/wiki/IBM_Enhanced_Keyboard

But its not listed in part no. though...

OK, not a unicomp case. It's a legit number, you just have such a mix of parts it's....weird.

There's no way that inner assembly originally came in a case with that label.  The dates are too far off.  Maybe some kind of field replacement but seems a little odd.
