« on: Mon, 18 January 2010, 20:15:08 »
We all know that IBM Model M's have excellent resale value, is it the same for the rest of the crew at Elite Keyboards?

yeah you can buy one on elite, then sell it on ebay for like 50 grand. that was not hyperbole, either. You can make a million dollars in a week! Just set up an order with majestouch for 1000-some-odd keyboards, and you're set for life brah.

Yeah, you might have been selling a "handyman's special" Topre on eBay later for only, like, $25K.

I have tried every single majestouch keyboard, not to mention dozens of others. I know keyboards pretty well. Mechanical switches started dyeing in the 90's when there were other technological innovations like the internet. People didn't like clicky keyboards because they were to loud and hard to press, and others because there too quiet and you would accidentally press keys all the time. it wasn't about being cheaper at all. rubber domes are incredibly more ergonomic (softer on fingers + less distance to press), more reliable, longer lasting, more comfotable and you can write way faster, because youre not distracted, by the sounds. Keyboards are better now than ever before. You can take an NIB IBM and the beautiful Logitech Illuminated to anywhere in the world and everoone would take the Logi. It's no contest. ***chanical keyboards have gone the way of the dinosaurs. They were heavy and slow then eventually they dyed off for smaller, faster animals. It's science.

I'll wage a duel between the IBM and the fancy illuminated Logitech. I bet I could smash one of those into little tiny bits with an old 7-pound clunker like mine.

There's a whole cult of people behind the mechanical keyboards, especially the IBM's. There are people who like the domes better, but many newer rubber dome keyboards tend to be of lower quality construction compared to the older models. You know a 7-pound keyboard is more well-built than some 12-oz piece of plastic. It's just science.

Are you just trolling?  You've been on the forum long enough to know what new vs. used keyboards sell for.

To those who genuinely want to know... Generally 75-100% depending on which model, whether it's still in stock and it's condition.  If it's very sought after and out of stock it may fetch more than 100%

There is no magic formula for determining something's value, it's supply and demand, the item's condition, currency exchange rates and many other factors and it's a moving target.

Exia, you recently flamed Elite publicly, have been on here a couple of months, then come back to ask what a keyboard is worth that is purchased from them when it seems you should know the answer to that.  So you come across as a troll.

i bought a new keyboard from them, not a used one. so how would i know how much it can sell for in the future if i replace it?
