High Contrast Granite set on PMK
« on: Fri, 16 December 2016, 16:57:29 »
So, what do you guys think about the new High Contrast Granite set of the month on PMK?
http://pimpmykeyboard.com/DSA-HC-Granite

I was hoping for a doubleshot set, but alas.... no    :(

Besides the obviously paradoxical name (high contrast set with a black on dark gray modifers?) I think this set has some potential.  I love the icon modifiers, but I do wish they weren't so low contrast. Nothing I feel like I need to throw my money at, but nice :)

Not my style, really. I have a couple of Granite sets in the original colors (plus RGB mods) and I'm happy with them.

I'm pretty sure the high contrast part of the name refers to the charcoal gray mods vs. the light gray alphas.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what they had in mind, I just find it funny that in a set with "high contrast" in the name there is such a low contrast to some of the keys :)

I've put some of my own sets together with their DSA caps, so I'm not really in need of another sublimated set.  I do wish they would offer icon modifiers in all of the standard color options though.

They still show those weird warped sides, shame on SP that seems un-responsive to fix an obvious quality defect.

I just got in on this set! I have been waiting for such a long time for a set that includes a Black legend on Grey caps.

Also, because I am British... I needed the ISO enter key. They are going to be adding the Grey with black legend version of thses keys into the set!

Sounds like a nice setup!  You'll have to update us with pics when you get them on.

It will be well into January before I get them. They are adding these ISO enter keys to the set...

I was looking at the bonus pack in the HC set and I'm not sure why they are including the F1-F4 & F9-F12 keys as they appear to be the same as the ones included in the HC common set. In regular granite the bonus pack included the F keys in the opposing color as the common set. You think this was a mistake in shooting the photo and they are supposed to be in the charcoal color instead of the white?

Same, though it would be better if it were the whole set. Having white alphas is a confusing decision, considering you can just supplement with Ice for that exact aesthetic.

SP responded to my question and said that it was an error in the photo and will be corrected in a couple of days....of course their response comes after the base kit and all of modifiers are out of stock  :(

From my understanding, SP is keeping all of these 'featured' sets in stock all the time. You just have to be patient and it'll pop up again in a month or so!

That's good news. I think I'm leaning towards regular granite as I like it slightly better, although in an ideal world I would get the regular granite alphas with the HC granite modifiers but it doesn't look like that would be an option since the F5-F8 keys would be in the regular granite modifier color instead of the charcoal HC granite modifier.

Nice, but they seem to be sold out of a lot of stuff.

It's also rather annoying that you can't zoom in on the views, even in the pop-up windows. They should know that KB geeks like to be able to see things in great detail.  :?)

The issue now is that they are sold out of the most popular and necessary stuff and still have quantities of things that won't sell by themselves. Nobody is buying a "windows kit" if they can't get the base set for the board. Hopefully they restock this and regular granite pronto.
