Hello from Buffalo!
« on: Mon, 02 January 2017, 14:38:22 »
Greetings all! I'm mousouchop from Buffalo, NY! I've been around the forums for the last couple of weeks, since a lot of google searches turn up posts here, but only just registered. I am a life long programmer (since middle school); currently 27 and employed as a Java programmer. I'm looking to branch out into some iOS programming at home/on the side. I'm learning Swift for selfish reasons: I want to build my perfect iOS app (one to use in all of my Japanese studies).

Due to my above mentioned at-home programming initiatives, I am looking for a reliable keyboard to use. Unfortunately, my lust for Japanese pushed me to order my last MacBook with a Japanese keyboard. As I program more off the clock, I'm getting more and more annoyed with the non-standard layout for the necessary braces/brackets/operators. That being said, I've typed on MacBooks for the last 15 years, and thus am accustomed to working with a 60% board.

I'm currently loving the idea of the HHKB2 (both for the size and minimalist layout). I'm a little apprehensive about some of the missing keys (accesible by Fn though), especially since I am looking to invest in something that will alleviate my current keyboard predicament.

Questions to HHKB/Topre owners that may stumble into this thread:
1) Have you programmed extensively using the HHKB, and did you find it efficient and easy to use?
2) How is the experience using stem converters to fit MX caps onto Topre boards? I'm talking moreso for the application of random artisan/novelty keys; not for swapping out all the keys on the board.
