these IC pullers work really well. $3.50 shipped! they're perfect. 2 of 'em will remove just about any spacebar - safe and easy like.

I have used the paperclip/keyring combo and it is a cheap way of getting it done.

I use this now and it works fine, and its easier on the fingers.
