Everex Tempo LX 386 laptop keyboard
« on: Sat, 30 January 2010, 12:19:09 »
Was just going through some photos and re-found this:

http://kishy.comuf.com/stuff/systems/sys_everex_tempo-lx/sys_everex_tempo-lx_2.jpg

I've never noticed how crappy the layout is on that because the screen backlight is toast so I've never used it beyond the CMOS setup.

Edit: for the longest time I thought it was a 286. For the benefit of Google searchers, the Everex Tempo LX is a 386, not a 286. Title corrected during this edit as well...I know it won't reflect here but it might to search engines.

I find the positioning of LCTRL, LALT, Caps Lock, RCTRL and RALT to be...let's call it defective.

There's some people out there that like to have the Ctrl key in that position where Caps Lock is on the standard 101-key keyboard. But that Alt key is just wacky.

...I should have known all the fans of the dumb CTRL position would take this the opposite direction from what I had suggested.

Dumb position... This is where it's moved away from the home row into the contortionist position, right?

your preference for ctrl location is clearly a social construct.

That's the thing I just don't get though...in the home row is where it's in a contortionist position.

wanna see a dysfunctional laptop layout? Take a look at my priest's old Gateway... here's the bottom row:

Fn Menu Ctrl Win Alt Space Alt Win Ctrl Fn

I'm kicking myself for not taking a pic of the keyboard with my phone when I was using it today.

This is a 286 and the AT keyboard does have the ctrl and alt in the same places.
