The House Higher Education Committee plans to hear testimony on House
Bill 1812 to CHANGE the Access Missouri Grant program Tuesday, March
2nd, in the House Hearing Room 6 at the State Capitol. HB 1812 would
slash financial awards by $1,750 for students attending independent
colleges. It is critical that we have a strong showing of support.

This reduction is exactly the amount i receive for the Access Missouri Grant only once a year. I attend Columbia College here in Jefferson City Mo and it is an independent college. Please visit http://www.keepmeincollege.org/ for more information and make the effort to showup to the hearing this comming Tuesday in Jefferson City MO at the MO State Capitol, Hearing Room 6 (in the
basement level) RSVP: by next Monday,March 1st--respond to this email or contact
Susan Nodine at 875-7427

Lose, not loose.  Schools need to teach spelling from K through 12.

As unfortunate as that is for you and all the students involved, even if I were in a position to 'officially' present my opinion to the powers that be, I'd encourage them to continue with the move.

Public education - government regulated, government provided, government subsidized - is how it should be to ensure a fair and uniform level of education for the population.

There are some things the private sector shouldn't be allowed to be involved in: healthcare provision, insurance of any kind, and education.

Don't get me wrong...I don't think "you" should lose your funding because you in some way deserve that...I'm saying the place you're getting your education never should have existed and if the government is making moves to make it less desirable to go there, it seems they agree.

Nothing wrong with private colleges, but the grants should come from private sources.  Most people I know didn't attend private colleges unless they had excellent scholarships to rely on.

Hmmm...good point.

Public funding should only go to public schooling, private funding to whatever the lender/grantor dictates.

Your statement about excellent scholarships proves a point though...private education costs a fortune in most cases, and in at least some cases the only reason your certifications will be valued higher than equivalents from a public institution is because of the higher pricetag (ridiculous mentality that "it cost more so it must be better").

I prefer loose grants rather than uptight ones. More fun at night.

Grant is a verb. She granted me more than she granted you. Ball's in your court ;-)

I'll take that as a type of silent forgiveness as I retreat into the shadows, lacking any interesting response.

The suggestion I had made earlier.

Damnit, why am I not able to read tone from this blasted computer...

Edit: OHHHHHH.

I was 95% occupied by a hockey game on TV so I didn't really read what you said in any sort of detail.
