When did Unicomp start offering grey/black keyboards?
« on: Fri, 24 February 2017, 20:29:17 »
So, after owning my Unicomp Customizer black/gray for a few years I finally decided to clean it. The black top of the case said it was made in '96. Would this be accurate?

Also, when did they start offering them in grey/black? I tried the wayback machine but couldn't tell.

If it looks like this, it's almost certainly an accurate mfg date printed on the shell.

But i am assuming you mean grey/black as in the color scheme? That's been a Unicomp thing since they opened shop.

Looks like that, except with the Unicomp logo under the lights.

Always?

I think they've done it since they got the manufacturing materials.

I distinctly remember 1996 era Unicomp advertisements, they were on that grey on black game since the beginning.

(Typing on a grey on black Unicomp with green ANSI keys right now!)

That can be changed (4th Gen) Yes, for black as well.

Yup they do sell non logo light covers. Pretty easy to swap off too. I dont mind the uni logo at all. But i think it looks better on black than on beige.

Agreed, I actually really like the logo. Fits in well with the rest of the keyboard.

They could probably make them in any colour.

Sometimes I wonder why they didn't make a yellow one.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yellow huh?
I wouldn't mind a green one. Not a bright green but a faded green.
