Pok3r keycaps question plus GMK question
« on: Thu, 29 June 2017, 06:56:07 »
Hello.

I have black Vortex Pok3r and the legends seem to be printed on the keycap so they are prone to fading as I've seen numerous times on various auctions. On the other hand I haven't seen a white Pok3r with faded legends, are they manufactured differently? Can someone confirm that the legends on the white Pok3r are not fading away?

Another thing is that Nautilus keycap set will soon be available on Massdrop. I consider joining the drop for the base set to cover 60% board and I've never owned high quality ABS keycap set before. Is it likely that I will not like the doubleshot ABS by GMK as much as I like Pok3r keycaps?

Thank you for all the responses!

I had my white pok3r as my main keyboard for a couple months, and didn't notice any of the legends fading.

If you like the Nautilus keyset you should totally buy it. I recently switched to GMK Hydro, and, in my opinion, the feel is way better than Pok3r's stock keycaps. If it turns out you don't like the feel of GMK's, you could always sale it over at r/mechmarket for what you bought it for.

Having bought both a white Pok3r and a black Pok3r, I can confirm that the white keycaps do not fade at all, but the legends on the black Pok3r PBT keycaps have already begun to fade substantially.

I believe they are manufactured the same way, with the legends burned by laser into the surface of both the black and white keycaps.  However, it appears the laser-etched legends are susceptible to becoming stained; on the white keycaps, the legends are already gray so it really isn't noticeable, but on the charcoal gray keycaps, it causes the legends to approach the color of the keycap itself, making them appear faded.

I am not aware of any method to remove the staining from the black keycaps, but I intend to replace the keycaps on my black Pok3r anyway.  The white Pok3r keycaps are excellent and, due to the method of etching the legends, should not fade at any point.  So far, they have proven to be more durable.
