Kensington Orbit Trackball with Scroll Wheel
« on: Fri, 26 February 2010, 05:43:40 »
Looks like Kensington quietly added a new orbit trackball with scroll wheel, looks like an old model though but there has been a new review which i happened upon.

It solves the only problem I had with my original orbit which is that it had no scroll wheel. I'm not sure if it can be had in the UK yet though, the slim blade is too expensive and i'm not sure a bigger ball is all that ergonomic to be honest.

Thats been out for a few months now. Considered getting it to replace my orbit that I use at work. The scroll wheel would be nice, and the price isn't too bad either.
I wish it had 4 buttons though.

I have the slimblade and expert, amongst other kensington mice, and find the slimblade to very comfortable to use.
I like the large ball and the ultra-smooth feel that it has. It makes mousing a pleasure.

Hmmm i mainly use the trackball in my left hand and a mouse in my right, the only thing i really miss is the track ring since my left hand hasn't got the muscle memory to handle other buttons yet.
The slim blade just looks too expensive and also i've never used a large ball trackball so it represents a big risk. No shops around london stock it so i can only buy it online. I like the idea of twisting the ball, but bigger ball = greater mass/momentum and maybe harder to grip? so i'm unsure how it will feel

no doubt the slimblade is pricey. you most certainly would want to try it before you buy it, especially if your not sure about the larger trackball.
I use the slimblade at the house and use the old orbit at work which has the smaller trackball. both are usable for me, but yeah, I prefer the slimblade as it has 4 buttons and the trackball is super smooth.

I bought this a couple of months ago and like it a lot.  I use it primarily with my left hand, which I trained myself to mouse with in order to reduce RSI in my right hand.  While there have been trackballs with scroll wheels, most had been for the right hand only, and past Kensington trackballs with the scroll rings were very expensive and larger.  I find this to be both a good size and price, and I enjoy the scroll ring more than most scroll wheels even.

Still lacks a third button. Makes it a bit unideal... Nice design though nonetheless.
