Brown Alps Dell AT101W
« on: Mon, 03 April 2017, 22:08:53 »
Today I decided that instead of looking at my old AT&T terminal board, that I would give its switches a go by mounting them in a Dell AT101W. I had 5 less than I needed so I left some of the function keys alone. Most of the switches worked just fine but others needed some encouragement and cleaning. Overall I'm satisfied with both the sound and key feel even over the venerable model f xt that I have. I desoldered all the switches from both boards and mounted them in the dell AT101. It is my first switch mod and it was easier than I thought t would be actually.

Brown alps seem to be rare and there are only like 4 known boards on deskthority. These did not come from one of those boards. Too bad I didnt realize that until after I dismantled it lol. The question now is how rare are these switches on a scale of 1-10

I'd put them in the same rarity as blue alps, hard to find but patience and some money will land them. Hopefully you got a good deal on them?

I'm typing on a Dell AT101 with modded (no leafs) blackies! (racist) ;D

That's normal, they did that at mine too. I just had them intercept those I wanted.

Aren't brown Alps not rare? There is an infinite supply of the IBM laptops that have them on eBay...
They're rareish like blue Alps but they're not super-rare like SKCL Brown or SKCM Green. Blue Alps are definitely more sought-out though.
