In deference to Canada I'm not bidding.

Hmm? If that's a reference to how I'm on the hunt for a trackball...remember, I need natively USB.

At that price, considering the good stuff I've seen about them, I'd try to grab it if I had an immediate use for it.

That quickdraw guy is amazing.

Hopefully someone on GH gets the DT225, I'll hold back because I got the other one and I know people on here want this one.

I had a smoked meat on rye and a side of poutine a couple weeks ago at a local Canadian restaurant.  Pretty good stuff, but I felt like I took a bullet in the gut afterward.

hehe, yea, try not to eat a poutine before going back to work, plans to fall asleep... it depends if they put too much sauce, it's better when the fries stay crisp, too often they turn this in a soup, it's not something I ever cook at home and i don't know anyone who does, it's sold mostly at hot dog places, for lunch, just like hotdogs with spagetti meat sauce instead of just ketchup

as an anecdote, we use the word poutine at all the time, lets say there is some messy mecanism in which we dont want to go into details, we just refer to it as "and all the poutine" under the hood

anyway, was there other trackballs like this one that sold recently? trying to get an idea of how much they end up selling for, thanks

CST or Kensington won't do for a trackball?

I'm split on whether I should try for this one.

How do you scroll pages with this mouse? I hear there is no way to make the scroll work in Internet Explorer and any Microsoft Office application? how is it in Windows Explorer, Google Chrome, Google Docs... or Linux?
I'd like to use it as all around pointing device but if it has too much limitations I might just get something else.

Kishy, lol, LOTS of Canadians at Geekhack now.
Show Image

Detailed discussion on the DT225 is here including the third party software Marble Mouse Scrollwheel.  Unfortunately the download site is down.  Don't be surprised if you couldn't find the DT225 post while searching - it is one of the candidates for "Worst Post Title On Geekhack" award.

Lol well OF COURSE, I just meant that since I am the only one I'm aware of with an active and publicly announced desire to get one, it'd be a fair assumption.

Ouch!  Wasn't me.

Hope it was a Canadian.

Wasn't me. At those prices, I'm going to get a CST.  Preferably one that has switch ports or can be modded to have them.

that was a re-posted item from a seller that must not have met reserve.  I bid $30 on it a few days ago and lost to a bid sniper for $31 with seconds to go.  Anyway, either that seller has more than one or he/she wasn't happy with the low winning price of the first auction.

agreed, I would have went to 35$ + another 10 for shipping, the down side was it was ps/2, and in this world of scrolling, it wasnt the most reliable scroller out there

when searching for ch dt225 on the forum i found a 40 of them were sold for 10$ each last october

i might go for the kensington, thought I read they recently released official drivers for windows, which i think used to be slightly more complicated before that(using 3rd party drivers from asia)

I've never eaten poutine before either. In fact, I've never known a single person in Canada who has ever eaten poutine. The first time I even heard of poutine is when they started selling it in McDonalds (which is American) - and at the time, I heard fellow Canadians saying, "What the hell is that ****?"

I think it's just another one of those confused myths like Canada being a frozen wasteland and Canadians eating back-bacon and fried moose while wearing lumberjack shirts and calling each other "hosers". (...so back off, you hosers! Eh?)

Indications are that poutine came out of rural Quebec although I really don't know.  Dr. Pepper was invented in Texas but I didn't drink it when I lived there even though it was served in McDonalds,.  I've never seen a McDonalds that served poutine although I confess that I didn't really examine the menus carefully when I was in Canada.

Canada IS a frozen wasteland filled with hosers.  I've seen the movies.

Bah! I can't see your attachment, so I can only assume it is something insulting, requiring an equally insulting response: your avatar looks like a German transsexual in a Lens Crafters commercial.

(OK... I'll admit there are a few hosers in Canada, but they mostly hang out in Newfoundland)

I work with a French Canadian from Quebec and she said poutine is very common there.

I read this article, so I went to the restaurant which is local to me and it was really good.

In BC they sell poutine every-f*cking-where. I was surprised to see it at KFC, but there it was. It might be a touristy thing, but It's pretty scrumptious stuff.

Poutine is a staple at high school and post-secondary school cafeterias here.

Gotta be true to your roots. Life's too short to worry about cholesterol (until you've got a problem, of course).

Hmm, yeah its kinda common in BC, but not really. Though my view of BC is everywhere but Vancouver and Vancouver Island. My first time trying poutine was living in Ottawa (there are poutine trucks everywhere, dirty french canadians included). Even after living in BC for over 10 years.

One thing common cross-Canada seems to be a dislike for the French presence here.

Maybe if they'd just assimilate and maintain their culture in the normal way...through books and education without being jerks about it...we could leave them alone.

Uh oh, the Germans on this board will finally have something to be pissed about other than Elite Keyboards' shipping rate to European countries. Expecting a shipment of Cherry switches to Canada anytime soon? I hope you're prepared to wait a while. ;)

My comment was more literal actually. The general recommendation when looking for a good poutine truck is to find one with a dirty frenchman, dressing style no later than the eighties, and must be smoking while sipping from a can of pepsi (got this tidbit from some Quebecers I used to work with, half jokingly).
Most french canadians are cool, though I've come across some very strange ones.

I set up a saved search for a CH DT225 on ebay.ca but I never get results. Someday I'll get one. I hope it won't be from trackballworld...

I live in Quebec and yes poutine is very common, some restaurants are even specialized in it (there are all sorts of variations as with frankfurters or meatballs).
