Daskeyboard 3 kind of broken
« on: Sun, 04 April 2010, 17:43:40 »
I'm new here, and I was wondering if anyone could help me resolve my keyboard issue. I actually just placed an order for a HHKB Professional 2, but my current keyboard is the Daskeyboard 3 Ultimate. I was letting my friend use it for a couple days while i was gone, and his keyboard tray in his desk fell, subsequently my keyboard fell with it. Now, I am having issues with three keys physically sticking: the '-', '+', and 'enter' key on my numpad. Also, my 'i' and 'up' keys don't register all the time. I think I pinpointed the issue to a crack in the base on the bottom left corner. Does anyone here have any plausible fixes?

Do the Cherry MX Blue switches depend on their relative position to the base? If I hold the bottom left corner of the case down, then it works perfectly. Also, if I were to sell this board, what do you think I would be able to get for it? It's about a year old.

They're pretty good with returns. It seems they invested all their QA budget in customer support...

Yeah, the DAS isn't exactly the most popular keyboard around here.

I posted a guide to opening up a DAS3 here, but be warned it is a tricky process and if your case is already damaged you could make it a lot worse.

Even after the case is open you don't have good access to the switches because they are mounted on both the PCB and plate.

Have your friend buy a new one and then send back the busted one under the 30 day no questions asked guarantee. Kidding. That would be wrong. The serials wouldn't match anyway. Unless you swapped the cases. Also wrong. Don't do this.

@ch_123, unfortunately I voided my warranty. Well, I halfway attempted to open it up, removed the warranty screw then gave up.

@ripster From what I can tell, I don't think it's an actual problem with the PCB board because it seems to be more of a physical issue. The switches all seem fine.

@didjamatic I would be interested in selling it. I mean it's almost 100% functional. Actually as of now, everything works fine. Would you still be interested in buying it? I'll probably be posting a classifieds ad soon. I don't have the box on me because I'm in college right now and the box is at home.
