Advice for a Custom 60% Build, Nature Themed
« on: Wed, 31 January 2018, 10:44:00 »
Need some advice on for a set I am planning out, these are the components:
60% board
plate
GMK camping set
green leds
Datamancer POK3R Wood Pack in walnut (linked below)
R9 Blue Zilent Switches

Can anyone recommend a board and plate? There is one option I am considering for the board which is linked below. Also, are all these parts compatible, am I missing anything? I did my research but I like being double checked before I drop a couple hundred dollars on a new build.

You just need a set of stabilizers and you're good to go.
My opensource projects: GH80-3000, TOAD, XMMX. Classified: stuff

Those raised bars on the Datamancer case may interfere with SMD components on the underside of the PCB. Try contacting Zeal (email, PM, etc.) to ask if he can confirm compatibility. That also goes for any PCB with underglow LEDs. If you are set on that case, you'll have to try to verify that the PCB of your choice will fit. Worst case, you can always mod your case.

There are lots of 60% PCBs out there to choose from. To name a few: B.face, NerD60, GH60 Satan, DZ60, S60-X RGB.
Winkeyless' programming software is not the most intuitive out there, but the B.face is plenty capable.
GON's NerD60 is a great PCB and very easy to program using his NerDy GUI software, but it's not as readily available compared to others on that list.
The rest use QMK, which is fairly straightforward.
I've personally built boards using all of the above PCBs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them.

Any 60% plate should work. Sentraq sells a variety of them: https://sentraq.com/collections/parts-1
Plate material will affect the feel as the different metals have different flexibility. It's hard to say exactly how you will like any given material. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to try it, but that can be tough when you are deciding on a build. Aluminum is by far the most common and probably the safest bet. You can search the various forums for people's impression of typing on the different plate materials.

Lastly, as TalkingTree stated, you need some stabs.
