IBM Model M or Unicomp With KVM Switch ?
« on: Mon, 05 April 2010, 14:08:43 »
Hi,

Could anyone please let me know if there are any issues with an IBM Model M or a Unicomp Customiser/Space Saver and a KVM switch ?

I think I read somewhere that a non powered KVM switch does not work as the keyboards require too much power but I am not sure about a powered KVM. Also, are there any differences between a KVM with PS2 or USB conectivity and the above keyboards.

I used some generic USB KVM with a Model M (on an adapter, of course) for a few years without any problems.  The switch was powered, IIRC.

I have an Iogear GCS634U that doesn't seem to play that well with my Model M's. They work fine for a day or so, then lock up. Sometimes to the point where the reset doesn't work. I also have a Cables to Go KVM that IS ps/2 and they frig up on that too.

The unicomps work fine on either KVM, go figure.

They work fine when directly connected to the computer though.
