Kensington (or other too) X-Reference Chart?
« on: Wed, 14 April 2010, 16:34:03 »
Additionally, I would think, since there is no collected archive of info on the kensinglon site of their discontinued products, that it would be really useful to compile a cross-reference chart of all the permutations to aid in distinguishing which items are of interest to a potential seeker and which items that might seem promising will be disappointingly incompatible with what they had in mind.  (And maybe the people who want to sell theirs can figure out the correct info to put in their listings for a change.) How do I start such an archive?  Maybe even this would apply to all models not just the expert mice

These were the factors important to me when I searched for my trackball when looking to get the same feel as the 2 button oldie I used in data entry on a Mac (That one was my favorite and I sought to recreate that feeling by determining what made it that way since I hadn't a clue what it was called back then): I bought a 2 button turbo, an orbit optical, and orbit mechanical before I finally got the one I wanted.  (And I like it better than the new ones, even with the scrolling missing.)  I needed to know:

1 if it would work at all with my system,
2.Did I have the right input
3 if it felt the way i remembered during use,
4 the extra features were gravy on the meat
5 got some interesting tidbits of info from reviews

so I propose the following criteria:

1 Name
      a model
   b version
   c color

2 platform/input and or adapters:
      a Apple only: ADB/Serial,
   b PC only: Serial,PS2
   c Both: Wireless/USB

3 Ball dynamics:
a Diameter: inches and whether a "cue ball" substitute is viable
   b Weight: ?
c bearing type: jewel or wheel
            d Sensor type: optical/opto-mechanical/mechanical

4 Features
       a buttons: how many
b dedicated Scroll/type: ring, wheel, twist
   c Custom options/Chording/Programmable features
d*caveats: driver support under OS version limits?

5 Additional Notes:
