Information on alps parts?
« on: Wed, 06 June 2018, 23:42:08 »
Was looking into Alps recently and I for sure would like to build a board.  Not sure where to get everything though.  I've seen some Paladin64 extras laying around but would it be possible to find some non-DSA caps that can support an HHKB layout?  Where would I get stabs and a plate?  I've seen everything else except those pieces.  Appreciate any help :)

You'll have to either find an extra Hasu Alps64 FR-4 plate, or have your own cut. Don't know about the HHKB layout, but as far as stabs go, unless you're using keycaps from an old Alps board, you can use regular cherry stabs. I think most modern Alps sets have MX mount stab stems. If you are harvesting from an older Alps board, you can take stabs from that board. If you want to use Alps mount stabs, I think Matias still sells them.

Matias does sell stabilizers: https://matias.store/collections/keycaps-and-switches-1/products/stabilizer-and-hook-set

If you're looking to get your own plate cut, you can design yourself a HHKB plate using swill's tool: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=65189.0

The only non-DSA Alps set I'm aware of is the DCS Alpine Winter set that ran a few years ago: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=75515.0  Not sure if that set supports the HHKB layout or not, but I think it gets pretty close. It will probably be a trick to find a set at this point, but you might be able to dig something up in the classifieds or something. Here's an IC currently underway for the same profile: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=94727.0

I believe Tai-Hao has some alps sets, but I don't know if any support HHKB layout.
