Topre RGB(R2) same as original?
« on: Tue, 18 June 2019, 06:50:29 »
I am told by a good source that the Topre RGB R2 is the same exact keyboard as the original RGB. Only difference is they have switched distributers from Seasonic To Fujitsu. At double the price.
Is this in fact true? There is no difference whatsoever?

It sure looks the same as the original RGB.  The original used the R2 case before the R2 came out, and I didn't see anything in the press release from January that made it sound like a single new or revised feature was added, other than the addition of a TKL version.  The price has gone up, but I think it was always ridiculously priced if you bought one new.  I want to say they were around $250 originally, and now they're $299.

Yes, apparently what they also did is change the format of the serial numbers due to being a different distributer. You can get the original for about $200 right now new. So the R2 is not double the price, just 50% more. I was well advised it is exactly the same keyboard. At $299 it is much more than a 104UB which is a better keyboard. I made many customizations to mine. Without them I would take a 104UB over it all day long. I put literally a fortune into it though. It is not really worth it in retrospect. Now, mine is actually much nicer than the 104UB I have several of IMO. I think in this segment, Topre is thinking Gamers, Enthusiasts ETC have no brains but the contrary is in fact true. Anyone wants one snatch up the original while they still have them.
