GEEKHACK KEY - sharing the love
« on: Mon, 03 May 2010, 18:24:47 »
I have received six geekhack keys (3 "sets") and will be parting with four of them.

In an effort to amuse myself (as well as give a few of you an opportunity to have one of these originals), I have decided to part with each one in a different manner.

1. I will trade one GH key for...something.  The most interesting (to me) offer will win (this does not, necessarily, have to be something of high value).  Those interested should PM me with their offer.  PM topic should be "GH key trade".  You can only make one offer (first PM I receive from you).  If you post your offer publically, your offer will be void. (the winning offer will be revealed, of course...unless the winner wishes it not to be)

2. I will auction one GH key off on eBay.  This will be a one week auction with no reserve, and free shipping worldwide.  If you wish to allow someone to walk away with one for pennies, that's fine with me.  Any actual money made will go into the geekhack fund (account I use for geekhack-related expenses).  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180502937620

3. I will give one GH key away to a "nominated" geekhack member.  Nominations are submitted in this thread.  You cannot nominate yourself nor can you plead your own case...only campaign for other members who have been nominated.

4. I will give the last GH key to either the second-best offer, another deserving, nominated member, or via a fourth method which you can suggest and discuss in this thread also.  :)

One key will be accompanied by a NIB keyboard (with brown or blue Cherries) and one will be accompanied by an autographed picture of yours truly (regardless of whether you want it or not).  :) This will be randomly determined.

Current nominations
Vils (Ripster)
Stevie Wonder (BitFlipper)
42.tar.gz (Kriminal)
Trievalot (HaaTa)
Chloe (Itlnstln)
Sandy55 (ClickClack)
Lam47 (iMav)
lowpoly (phoenix)

I nominate iMav. ****. Wait a second.

I nominate that you can't nominate people (like me) who already ordered GEEK HACK keys successfully.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

yes, those who already have one are not eligible (should've clarified that, but I thought it was obvious).

There were some members that were quite unhappy at not getting a chance to order...this gives those folks an opportunity.

Is it OK to shill bid on eBay to drive up the price? I haven't donated to Geekhack.org otherwise yet. Is it still shill bidding if I intend to pay?

Gnn... anti-nominated on the first day.

Alas, once discovered, it's quite difficult to change your perception of something. I guess that goes for both visual artifacts and presupposing new members. ;)

thirding lowpo for having come up with an entire helluva keyboard from scratch. (I really hope it gets produced, but even just getting mentioned on engadget for it is a lot more than the rest of us chumps have done).
Think about it. He did the body, casing, design, firmware -- everything. In like his basement or something. With really innovative built in mouse buttons, and it looks like a million bucks to boot.
And that doesnt even include the amazing interactive website he created for it, where you can choose your color options and see the resulting pic immediately, and configure the key layout online. Jesus.
He was like a one-man keyboard corporation.
If anyone deserves a special geekhacky award, its lowpo.

*I just made a pun. The geekhack(e)y award. Get it? get it? he should get a geekhack key, get it? for being geekhacky!  See what i did there?

Hmmm......

P.S.  iMav can keep the autographed picture.

Less then two days left.  There are a few acceptable offers in my inbox, the eBay auction has bids, and we have a few nominations in this thread.  So at least three of the keycaps will be headed out the door.  I've got some more keycaps being donated to be given away  in similar fashion, so if you guys have some good ideas, let me have them (for round two).

I like the typing test idea, even though I think it was suggested in jest.  Not sure how to keep it honest though.

I may do a random drawing for one next time.  I also have some other amusing ideas.

I would give away my 'norwegian mug'.

But I won't since I don't have an actual keyboard for that key.

The text reads:
Quote
The Norwegian manufacturer asked his Swedish colleague:
- We are manufacturing a mug and we wonder if the handle should be on the left or right side?
The Swedish then answered somewhat annoyed:
- But for heavens sake, use the inside! [his brain]
And the Norwegian followed the good advice.

I'll vote for lowpoly as well, I like that design.

Also I wish to nominate the Newest member to Geekhack at the time of my/this nomination, GL to whoever you maybe.

Only 2hrs 8 mins left on ebay :frown:

EDIT:  Just read the Post again and noticed "2. I will auction one GH key off on eBay. This will be a one week auction with no reserve, and free shipping worldwide.", so I bid.

it's not about me making money.  It's about giving others opportunities to receive one of these keys... (I received a lot of complaints that several people felt they had no opportunity to purchase one.  Now they have several potential ways to acquire one.)

Note, all methods for this round end when the eBay auction ends...the trade offer as well as the nominations.
