Filco vs Leopold vs Ducky Stabilizers 2019
« on: Fri, 19 April 2019, 02:34:53 »
Anyone have both of these boards? I have a brand new FC900R with blacks and the keys feel great. Spacebar on the left side feels a bit "uneven" compared to the right side but it's not awful. I know there's almost no point in buying a filco anymore - but do the stabilizers compare to those of a Leopold?

Interestingly, I had 3 Ducky Shine 7's, all of the stabs were terrible. Rattly and uneven across the board. The one 2 mini stabs, however, felt incredible, easily some of if not the best I've typed on in a stock board(mk.com confirmed the one 2 mini uses different stabilizers from the shine 7 series)

Bottom line: to anyone that has used or has a filco/ducky/leopold in the current year - which stabs do you like the best?

I don't like costar stabs, they are only better than stock clone plate mounts IMO. Leopold has the best stabs out of the three, they're factory lubed and clipped IIRC

I'm never getting a board with Costar stabs [Filco] again. I'm typing this on a Filco Majestouch 2, and the stabs don't play nice with a wide range of aftermarket keycaps. [Whereas Cherry stabs would be less problematic.]

I think the Costar stabs on the Filco were designed basically for thin OEM-profile ABS, and that's it. You can get SP SA R3 on there too.

The stabs are rattly and noisy if anything is even a tiny bit out-of-spec.

Contrast this with the Varmilo VA87M I received. Beautiful, buttery stabs, feel like they've been lubed from the factory. Took aftermarket keycaps without a problem. Quieter, too. Sure, Cherry stabs aren't as teeth-clenched rigid as Cherry, but who wants that?

I own a Majestouch 2, and my next keyboard will be a Leopold FC900R PD.
