Question about Cherry MX Red switches.

Hello, everyone.

Thinking about getting an Cougar Attack X3 RGB keeb, with MX Red switches.
But, I have some questions first.

• Heard that Cherry MX Red switches are ”scratchy”. What does that mean, and does that affect the feel? I dont mind the sound.
• Are they smooth?
• Is the bottom out ”cushioned”? I dont want them to feel mushy, just a smooth travel with a hard bottom-out. (Yes that sounds kinky I know)

- The new ones are not. I think it's still safer to go to keyboards with Gaterons or Outemus if you're looking for a smooth switch, but I haven't met a new Cherry keyboard that was scratchy. I found Kailhs really, really scratchy.

Full time cherry mx red user and with fast typing i can say they are great, but very loud. They have very smooth travel, however you can feel the stem going which feels quite scratchy. It affects the feel by making it a quite itchy feeling if you slow down.

The bottom out is not cushioned , it is a hard bottom out. By lubing the switches and putting o rings on it, it will put it very soft.
Lube the switches, it will be very smoother

This is the only switch i owned and all the other switches i've just... tried???

Gaterons and any other ripoff switch feels slightly worser in quality compared to cherry. However, not all ripoff switches are bad. Some are really smooth in bottoming out, however are much heavier like Zealios.

I'm telling you, cherries are the only ones available in my area. I could order some zealios, but i haven't had the chance to since i'm not good at soldering. ):

I find gateron blacks to be the smoothest and with an affordable price point (which takes out pandas, zelios etc). If u are a hard typing, bottom out user (like me) then gateron blacks feels better than reds,... If u need a lighter actuation that black, go for gateron yellows.

If u are going for bottoming out without that much noise... Then then GmK keycaps with 1 or 2 o rings per keycap reduces some bottom out noises

In addition to my post,i could say they feel a bit scratchy, however they are very effortless making them smooth.

Using now Gateron yellows lubbed and they fell really amazing. Quiet, smooth, perfect weight. I strongly recommend.

Agreed, lubed gat yellows are a fantastic switch and excellent value
