Termux?
« on: Thu, 09 May 2019, 18:09:27 »
Started using termux a few days ago as a little calcurse client (sync'd with local nextcloud instance); also ranger for moving files/folders around.

I'm really late to this party but.. any GH folks here dabble with termux?  I bet some of you have used it for years to ssh into droplets or low-key pen testing..

Was surprised to learn that pips, gems, and npms are available.  There are far too many packages available to list here.  Even a dang mud/bbs client (t++).

If nothing else, it's neat to look inside an old Android device.  Sync some things or whatever.  Did I mention telnet?  Might have revived this locked down Fire 7 7th gen.

p.s. - About swiftkey...  Not signed up for the cloud sync and I switch to default keyboard for the important stuff.

Reporting back in..  Still syncing my Calcurse config/data from my local Nextcloud server to Termux (bash alias) on the surprisingly useful 2017 Kindle Fire 7".  Tying in notifications generated from shell scripts or Python programs to the Android notification system is possible.  Can't say I use termux-notification as often as simple bash/python scripts or the Ranger file manager, but it's a nice feature to play around with.  Actually, quite a few of the gifs I've converted from mp4 to gif to post on the forum were pulled with youtube-dl using Termux.

tl;dr - termux-notification, calcurse, ranger file manager, youtube-dl (gif memes), bash/python scripts, my vim config/plugins ported fine

I'm not recommending ASCII or TUI tools for casual users--if you're already using such things Termux can be a fine extra toolbox.
