another dye try
« on: Thu, 24 June 2010, 23:31:13 »
I attempted my first key-coloring cooking class today. Its sort of "Meh" but not too bad overall. No way I was going to practice on a Model M. So the Key Tronic was it. I don't know if it was the three baths I gave it or the original creme white color of this board & keys but believe it or not, I used medium blue dye. These look purple/grey/black in bright light. Probably did one too many baths but be warned that you might want to stop and let it fully dry after one or two baths before deciding its not dark enough.

not bad. I'm using one of those keytronics ATM and it might be the perfect candidate for a ghetto DAS I.

I was talking about the Back Space key :)
Your english is perfectly readable.
Besides, the only German words that I know are "luftballoon", "fahrvergnugen", and "tastatur".

@ripster: The style of the font is called "Fraktur". Just in case you wondered :)

This turns out not to be the case. Fracteur is a typeface, a family of fonts, not a style. The generic term for the thick ornate typeface style is 'blackletter'.

Nice! Arguing about typography with Germans :)

The font in that poster is also not a Fraktur, but a Textur.

Edit: To be fair, Fraktur is often used to call any blackletter font. And I think that's what jensma meant. Ricercar, how do you distinguish between style and family?

Fraktur is what I learned in school, that's all. I didn't know about style/family aso. It was just the way I wrote letters.. never thought about that deeply :P

If you adorn yourself with borrowed plumes from wikipedia, then do it with more
accuracy, "Fracteur" is not mentioned there. Apart from that, the term Fraktur
is sometimes applied to all of the blackletter typefaces.

The point is, you have already understand the message, don't split hairs!

You're not from around here, are you? This is Geekhack. Geeks feed on split hairs.

PS. I was adorning YOU (2nd person plural) with wikipedia, for edification. I don't need an external resource to correctly split typography hairs (or infinitives).

Now now children, don't get your jägermeister bunched up with some bratwürst. Drink responsibly:

The blackletter font used on the Mein Kampf title is actually a hybrid. It's not anything in specific.

chain of associations was strange..

spolia optima -> Luftballon
ripster -> Luftwaffe
EverythingIBM -> Adolf Hitler (Austrian) with IBM keyboard
ricercar -> Fraktur is an blackletter (ha ha german has an accent..)
phoenix -> amused about ricercar's overly didactic lesson
noctua -> OH SNAP! I can be pedantic too..
ripster ->  I am innocent! (you have an autism spectrum right?)
..

At least, we are in a manner of speaking back in civilization.
