Chicony 5981/2 variant with white alps? or clones?
« on: Wed, 30 October 2019, 12:21:11 »
Picked up a Chicony 5981 for cheap, knowing this particular model coming with either rubber domes, aristotle cherry mx clones, cherry mx clears or smk monterey switches. Seller wasn't willing to take a cap off since it was supposedly hard to do so and didnt want to break anything but said they were clicky. Model number was blurry in the pic but figured it wasn't worth the hassle asking given the price.

Removed a keycap and was surprised to see white alps, which should have only been in the 5181 predecessor. The stabilisers look original but the alps logo on the switch housing is one that I haven't come across before with a weird 'L'. Had a poke around but couldn't find anything. This particular variant or serial number also aren't listed and can't find any info about it.

Haven't had time to take the switch apart just yet, but will be doing so soon since they're very dirty and need to be cleaned.

Is this possibly some kind of early 5981 with alps shoved in before they switched over to just the other 4 variants or is this just some clone?
