Lubed Cherries?
« on: Sat, 28 March 2020, 10:52:48 »
Howdy y'all.

There's a lot of hate for Cherry MX switches (saying they're scratchy and all that) but then you compare them to a lubed alternative so surely its not a fair comparison?

Has anyone lubed Cherry switches and if so, is it still that bad in comparison to a Gateron for example?

Lube will definitely help Cherry switches out, but most other lubed switches will still feel smoother for the most part. If you can manage to get your hands on switches from a batch made soon after Cherry retooled their equipment they are super smooth & then there is vintage Cherry switches which are usually much smoother than modern. Although getting your hands on those good batches is a crapshoot or deep rabbit hole (searching for certain batch no.) so it's just much easier to just grab switches you know will be decently smooth out of the gate. Also I wouldn't say the community hates Cherry MX switches, but we are definitely annoyed by their lack of innovation compared to other manufacturers.

My love of cherries has just dwindled in comparison to the growth of all the clones in the past few years. I was pretty die hard cherry when they were one of the only names on the block, and my Ducky shine has blues in it that I still have some love for.

But now that we have more extreme and in same cases moddable alternatives with Kailh, and like, they are starting to feel outdated.

And somehow they refuse to make new switches. They introduced the Speed silver, and the silent blacks and red, but nothing really crazily innovative or new in comparison to what's happening in Asia with switches.

I've never tried them lubed, but then again I only felt a lubed switch for the first time a month ago, I liked it, but I'm not sure I'd want to commit to it.

I still love Cherry because they have the best housings that sounds nicer then any of the other clones when lubed. With Cherry you need to Cherry pick your batches of switch, Because there are batches of switches from Cherry that are super smooth or smooth as Gateron.
