[IC] Solder Holder
« on: Sun, 17 May 2020, 21:10:40 »
I created this solder holder, it was modeled around a .45kg (1lb) standard roll of Kester solder, the dimensions if you would like to check your rolls of solder are as listed.

Inner shaft diameter = 18.20 mm (~0.717 inches)

Inner Diameter = 62.80 mm (~2.47 inches)

Depth = 57.00 mm (~2.44 inches)

After 14 iterations of working out wall thickness and tolerances I finally completed this 3d printing project. The container holds my Kester solder rolls, and its purpose is a few things, Keeping the solder in this container prevents the spool from unwinding, keeps my hands off the solder when I am just moving it around, and makes it look better, there is a slot that will let you pull solder off the roll and when you are done you can remove the magnetic lid and wind the excess back around the roll without touching it. I personally like it a lot and would like to know if I should produce them for sale at my website www.keycapt.com

They take 4.5 hours to print and I would try to keep the price around 30 dollars shipped CONUS, I have not checked shipping rates at all yet, but would hope to be able to ship world wide. Please let me know if you are interested.

Feel free to let me know if this is stupid or cool.

Probably not a customer for this but would print one if you released the file.

Well, my goal here is to eventually work my way up to producing keyboard sound dampening foams to compete with MKUltra (which he is specifically asking for) I don't want to release the file (yet) because I would like to sell them, earn trust within the KB community and put the funds toward a laser cutting machine. Then one day, maybe a full custom KB release. I appreciate your comment.

I appreciate you thinking outside the box for things that folks may want, although I’m not sure how much demand there is for this.

$30 is quite a lot considering a metal soldering reel is like $7 on ebay, (and imo seems more stable).

I'd consider simplifying your design to be $5 or less to produce (honeycomb the sides?).

You should really understand: keyboardbelle is selling entirely 3d printed cases for $60, and $30 for bstock.

This is kinda lit, could you make the slot wider so it could work with toilet paper?

I agree with this. A little expensive for what it is. But I also appreciate the motive behind selling it, so I would be willing to pay like 5 bucks for the file if you put that on your site as well.

This is a good idea, thank you all for the info and the pointers. I agree that there is no place for this being 30 when Belle is selling cases for around 50-60.. if I had a print farm I could lower the cost but at 5 bucks and being able to only produce 3 or so a day its not worth it, for material cost and time/effort. I need to ponder putting the file up, as it will increase the hosting cost of my webpage by about 120.00 per year. I have a couple other other KB related files as well.

Again, thank you all.
