Yo! From Boston!

Hey all! Figured I'd make an account and post; I can already see how this hobby is going to overtake me...
For the past few years my friends have all been super into all things keeb related. College dorm was full of enthusiasts, everyone seemed to be building their own keyboards. My k70 with blues was always enough, until I started using it for extended hours every day  Recently I pulled the trigger on a sofle kit from mysticmechs, figuring it would be a good experiment with an ergo layout, as well as just being something for me to do this summer, since quarantine will probably run long up here. Anyway, I've spent the last week or so mulling through group buys on here, bookmarking anything that catches my eye, and theres waaay too much stuff catching my eye )
Just want to add on at the end -- usually I wouldn't ever think about posting in a new members section but this community seems extraordinarily outgoing and accepting and that't honestly super awesome. Looking forward to spending too much time here in the future

I used a K70 with blues at work for years myself.

I'm not an ergo guy, but that board looks pretty cool.

Probably just going to get reds; heavy keys force all of the blood out of my fingers and make it impossible to type.  Also getting a little tired of the constant clicking of these blues  Hopefully something quiet

MX blues can get annoying. I don't know of anybody who doesn't like the sound of Kailh's box jades or pinks though. The tactile event, and smoothness, feels much better too. Otherwise, there are silent reds if you really want something quiet. I should have had the new Kailh silent reds already, but that package was returned to sender for some reason. My biggest problem with MX reds is that they're actually too light. I accidentally actuate them when I rest my fingers on them.

Which switches have you tried that you've found to be too heavy? You can get replacement springs for most switches to adjust the weighting how you like, so long as it doesn't prevent the switch from returning due to relatively stiff tactile events (this can be helped with lube as well, I believe).

I have found Gateron yellows to be a good compromise between something like MX reds and MX blacks, when it comes to linears. Gaterons are much smoother than MX to boot.
