Hello everyone

ML engineer currently based in Belgium here. I wanted to get into mech keyboards for a while now, but I didn't want to get stabbed in the office so I kinda always defaulted to just using the laptop as is. Now with the pandemic and working from home I finally decided that it is time. I have no experience whatsoever with mechanical keyboards, terminology etc. I am mostly a Vim user so that kinda makes me flexible with the form factor. I think I would prefer at least 65 but I think I could easily adapt to 60 if need be. Anyway, I'm guessing there are people with similar backgrounds and workflows so I would love to see your setups and get some pointers. I would like to take it slow with a learning project, but I would like to transition to complex builds, especially cause I'm working at a company that has a lot of contact with 3d printing and cnc industries, and have access to all sorts of machines.

Ah almost forgot, I use nix based systems exclusively so I would like a mac like layout if that exists (I'm guessing all of that can be customized)

Looking forward to hearing form you all :)

Welcome.

For when the world returns to normal, there is a good selection of factory silenced switches available (both linear and tactile) which are just as quiet, or possibly quieter, than cheap membrane keyboards.
