In my opinion the most overrated linear
« on: Tue, 24 November 2020, 00:14:49 »
The novel keys creams, I was so happy to buy them but I was disappointed when I found out w/ 205g0 the creams felt worse then CHERRY MX REDS with 205g0, I am still shocked

i thought that the whole point of the creams is that they were very good stock, so that you do not need to tediously open 105 switches to lube then and still have a good keyboard... but then you do you and yeah to me pretty much all those are overrated and hyped

My first attempt at lubing these also went awry although I went experimental and used PTFE grease which made it more scratchy. I’m optimistic that I can improve them in my next attempt but we’ll see.

From what I understand, Creams need to be broken in. The "self lubricating POM" needs to be used for a few months before you actually open them up for lubing. The sound and feel does get better. I'd recommend throwing some in a hotswap board and rotating them every few weeks so they're all used at a similar rate. I'm about 2 months into the process for my creams and they sound much better than they did on day 1. I plan to lube in about a month so we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, Novelkeys Cream is something that I genuinely think is what an average switch (at best)  having the perfect streak of luck and good marketing, more specifically being having featured on high profile e-celeb's keyboard and the near mystic property of 'Self lubricating POM' attributed to them (like seriously, when will people learn that X material doesn't automatically makes a switch good? So many other factor is involved). All of which really helps elevate them to frankly an undeserving status among the linear offering right now.

Also people always says how Creams 'need work to be good/smooth', which is quite a BS point to be made when other offering are just as good if not outright better stock even compared to modded and lubed Creams, like how is that even consider a defense for a switch? Mod the other switch as well and they will almost certainly pull ahead of Cream. And my attempt at 'breaking in' my Creams samples yield no tangible improvement in terms of smoothness, so the 'breaking in' myth could be a classic case of placebo as well (everything about breaking in Creams is just pure anecdote AFAIK).

POM wears down fast with friction.  It takes at least a month to see results. I've talkedd to many cream lovers and they all say to break in for at least 6 weeks before lubing
I like creams because of their character. They don't sound like anything else.

Doing this for 30 seconds to each switch is probably faster than rotating switches around for several months.

If you have one of these that you use for uh.... "other uses" I'd suggest thoroughly cleaning the end of it before using it on your switches

Haha, this punches in and out about 10mm. There's probably better devices geared toward "other uses"..   Actually.... on second thought....ahhhhhhh  :)  :)

I see what your saying but why the hell would you have to break them in, I’m a huge fan of jwk/durock
I’d just get those
