HHKB Hybrid in an all German environment?
« on: Fri, 01 January 2021, 13:32:04 »
I love Topre switches. I own a 100% Realforce with ISO German Layout already.

I'd love to have a small HHKB for Home Office Setup. I have quite some space limitations. For number crunching I've got a separate numpad. I'd need the HHKB for text and coding. The environment is all German. No exeption. US internatinaö is not annoption. Due to coding work and Excel stuff I would need the one ISO key that is missing from the HHKB. Located between L Shift and Z the "<>|" key.

Any chance to get this working with the HHKB hybrid and  the keymapping tool? I don't care where the key will be located on the board. I need this key and it's the only thing holding me back frim getting the HHKB (blank keycaps).

Regards
Stefan

As the HHKB is only available is ANSI and JIS I highly doubt this key is in the keymapper (which refuses to run in Linux so I can't check), if it is available it will probably have the UK label of |\

You could buy a standard HHKB Pro 2 and a replacement controller from hasu which would make the board fully programmable if you don't already have the Hybrid?

Good one with ISO UK key in that position. At least I have seen this key in a screenshot from the key mapping tool. Somehow promising.

On the other hand my only option to run the software is on my MX Linux box. But maybe the key mapping tool does not need admin rights on Win10? A simple executable would run even on this locked down work PC I have.

I mean, I would prefer Topre switches but there are other great keyboards as well.

Hi all,

I just saw the HHKB is listed under the keyboard sectiobbof the VIA keymapping software.

Does this refer to the Hasu enhanced versions or is it the official production model?

Regards
Stefan

PS: Just checked - Win 10 HHKB keymapping tool requires admin rights.

Got confirmation from PFU customer service.
You can't have ISO Keys via the keymapping tool.

That would eiher be the Hasu controller or someone got really keen and added the classic from the thread on hacking it.  I thought that was a non-Topre board but looking at that thread now I see it isn't, and it mentions the Hybrid too...
