[IC] Corne-ish Zen R3 - low profile wireless split keyboard
« on: Wed, 23 February 2022, 12:11:54 »
Hello Beautiful people!

Lets all go back in time one year and remind ourselves about a time when I thought I could limit the production of this keyboard to 100 units. Slightly shortsighted ;) Gear up folks, after nearly 500 keyboards sold, Round 3 of the Corne-ish Zen is just around the corner. If the number of people who have signed up for notifications on my Discord server are any indication, then this will likely be the biggest run yet.

To catch up the unaware, the Corne-ish Zen is a low profile split wireless keyboard based on the popular Corne (CRKB) that has been upgraded with premium features like CNC aluminum case and e-ink displays.

Here are some of the major details:

  • Works exclusively with Kailh Choc v1 (pg1350) switches
  • Choc key spacing. (17x18mm) Allows for closer keys and less reaching
  • 100% Fully assembled PCBs, including hot swap sockets
  • Ships with ZMK firmware pre-installed
  • Externally accessible power and reset switches
  • Tiny upward facing status LED indicators for charging status and booloader status
  • USB C port with ESD protection on data and power lines
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.0 module with CE, FCC, and RoHS Certifications. This module uses the Nordic NRF52840 SOC which has a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 CPU on board running at 64MHz
  • 1.05” E-paper screen on each half. The display driver and power components are built into the main PCB allowing a super thin case
  • I80mAh lithium polymer batteries built in. Gives around 2 weeks of power to the left half and around 3 weeks for the right
  • Built in battery charger
  • Dedicated battery management IC built in
  • Completely assembled and tested prior to shipping
  • Available in 3x6 and 3x5 versions. The 3x6 will have an acrylic baseplate and the 3x5 will have an ABS baseplate… both injection molded

Please Note:
This keyboard will NOT accept MX switches or keycaps. Low profile is a primary goal for this keyboard, and MX switches do not fit that description.

What is new in R3?
  • Trimmed down a bit on some of the case colours, and possibly adding some new ones
  • Switches and keycaps will be available (optionally) to be included in the GB if so desired
  • No bare pcb option this time, keyboards only in this round
  • Likely no EU proxy this round
  • Keyboards will be assembled, tested and shipped in groups of 100, based on order number. So get in early.

Pricing: (unchanged from last round)

Keyboard only: $325
  • Aluminum/Acrylic case
  • Everything fully assembled and tested
  • Preloaded with firmware
  • Switches and keycaps are extra, and not included in this price

For the most up to date details and status updates, I highly (highly) recommend joining my Discord server. I can’t imagine being involved in this community without it at this point. Tons of info on my ongoing projects and pretty much instant access to me and other Zen owners for questions and support.
