Help With My First Hot-Swap
« on: Mon, 19 April 2021, 07:56:51 »
Hello,

I just got my first hot swap board, the KBD67 Lite R1

It has Kailh Hot Swap sockets. This may all sound trivial but I am new to this and just trying to educate myself as it isn't explained anywhere in depth online from what I could find.

Basically, what switches can I use for this board? Does it matter if they are PCB mount or Plate mount? Does the brand make any difference?

What I read online people just said as long as you have a plate you can use either. This board comes with the pcb and a polycarbonate plate, but I am not sure if that is the same thing?

Anyways thanks for the answers and if anybody has advice for this particular setup please let me know. I was hoping to use gateron black ink v2 to start (if compatible) but I also was going to order a switch tester so I can try out multiple options to see how I like other options.

Thank you,

-Mars

you should be able to use any MX-compatible switches, you can't use optical, magnetic, alps or choc.
the brand can make a difference in key fell but any should work in the sockets, although desoldered switches can damage the socket, so no vintage switches is preferable.
the pcb is the part connecting the switches electrically, the plate does the same mechanically, the pcb mount switches have 2 extra plastic legs for support when you do not use a plate, as you said, you have a PC plate, so it does not matter.
the gat ink blacks should be compatible, and switch testers are nice but lack a lot of features to fully try a switch, like a feedback for actuation and the feel over multiple fingers and row, so maybe do not spend hundreds on it, and if you are pretty confident on what you'd like maybe order a 10 pack of those instead and put them in the board.
hope this helps
