Repair help request - column not working
« on: Tue, 22 March 2022, 20:59:21 »
Hello,

I found this forum via Google and hope someone can help me to repair my keyboard. I've got a multimeter and a soldering iron but no idea about electronic circuits/PCBs.

A column of keys (F7, 7, U, J, N - red dots) of my ASUS Rog Strix Scope keyboard is unresponsive. I've read a bit about how keyboards work and measured some stuff using a multimeter, but I'm still unsure about what to make of this information.

Every column except for the non working one seems to be connected to a different pin of the ARM stm32f072 microcontroller on the left: The diodes of the columns to the left and right of the non working one are connected to one of the vias to the upper right of the microcontroller and ultimately to its upper pins 5 resp 7 from the right. The middle via (purple arrow) is connected to pin 6, and I guess it should be connected to the diodes of the defective column aswell - but it isn't. The purple-circled via is connected to one side of the diodes of the column in question, but not to pin 6 (or any other pin of the microcontroller).

I'm hesitant to just try it, because I don't want to make things worse and know nothing about this stuff - can I simply try to solder a wire between the purple arrow & purple circle vias (or pin 6 & one of the diodes) to fix this, or am I wrong with my assumptions/is it a bad idea?

Thanks :)

Update: I just went for it and it actually worked.
