Cyborg 65% keyboard
Designed by Boom Lab

Hello everyone, we are the Keebclack team. We will bring interesting designs from different studios to this community, refine them according to players' ideas, and finally implement the projects. We will perform strict QC standards and provide comprehensive after-sales service for all the projects we run.
Next, we would like to introduce our first project - the Cyborg 65.

Intro

Hello everyone, first of all, let me greet you all. As a seasoned player in the custom keyboard community, I have an unparalleled passion for custom keyboards. Throughout this journey, I have witnessed the birth of many outstanding works with different styles, and I also have many ideas that I want to implement regarding custom keyboards. Therefore, I founded a team called BOOM.

Design

Our design inspiration comes from RoboCop. The 1987 version of RoboCop is the first movie I saw about "robots", and I am extremely fond of the IP, including the design of the new RoboCop characters and vehicles published in 2014. That's why I chose this inspiration as the design source for my first keyboard.
Design In the initial design

I hoped that this keyboard could embody the mechanical and high-tech sense exhibited in the movie, as well as the visual impact brought by the exposed structure. We wanted to create the effect of RoboCop's motorcycle lights on the keyboard. After three rounds of samples and adjustments to the position and size of the light strips and the light transmission rate of the light diffuser, we achieved the most satisfactory effect.

▼Rugged design style.Side design is convenient for gripping the keyboard.
▼We have a design with exposed screws.
▼The initial idea was to display the lights in a straight-out way, but after several rounds of prototyping, we found that the effect was not ideal. Therefore, after several discussions within the team, we decided to showcase these two unique lights in another way. The RGB light strip is installed in the bottom shell, and the reflected light from the PVD weight when illuminated is softer and more sci-fi than the actual direct light.
▼There are three LED indicator lights on the front.

Structure

▼The advantage of the rubber gasket fixing method is that it is convenient and quick, but we believe that the rubber gasket can never prevent the internal structure from moving horizontally. Therefore, we have made adjustments to the structure, and the plate is fixed to the middle frame by screws and stainless steel sheets. In this way, there will be no slight shaking between the plate and the PCB inside the kit. We can modify the material and length of the stainless steel washer to determine the deformation size of the plate, and change the touch feeling and soft keystroke.
▼We also have a gasket-mounted plate solution.
▼The following is a preliminary demonstration of our model.

Layouts and PCB

▼USB-C support: Hot-swappable for multiple staggered CAPS, split backspace, split spacebar, and 7u enter.
▼The Bluetooth mode supports: multiple layouts including stepped CAPS, split backspace, and 7u spacebar, which are hot-swappable.
▼The keyboard supports Bluetooth mode with hot-swappable layouts for stepped caps, split backspace, and 7u spacebar. The PCB is available in single or Bluetooth mode and equipped with two battery compartments, providing both a sleek, symmetrical appearance and long battery life up to 5000mAh. For single mode PCB, both VIA and VIAL firmware are supported, and VIAL can automatically recognize the keyboard without downloading additional firmware, making key remapping more convenient. For the Bluetooth mode PCB, we have developed our own LDN driver with low latency and full-key rollover, providing more new features to explore.

You forgot the split left shift for ISO users  :blank:
Please think about ISO users, add a split left shift to your "alice style" keyboards

Thank you for your feedback. ;) Because we are using a PCB-mounted stabilizer solution, the "split left shift" key will conflict with the components. To address the needs of ISO users, we will provide a steel plate with ISO layout support as a gift~

So the plate will support it but not the pcb?

Also, imo steel plates are very 2018, fr4 is probably cheaper to supply as a gift and overal considered a nicer plate material by a majority of the people.

You can just flip the HS sockets for ISO Left Shift. It is absolutely one of the easier multi-layout things to support and should really be included. Please reconsider on that.
