Take one of the "thick mousepad" type rests and cut it.  That's what I did.  If you search the forum, a member named Chuckading made some wrist rest/monitor stand combo things that are really nice.  He is selling them for $100 if you want to buy something a little nicer.

This is not my HHKB, obviously, but you get the general idea:

You could use two mouse wrist rests (not the type with built-in mouse mats, obviously.)
Or wrist rests designed for laptops - either one-piece or 2-piece designs.

Or you could make one out of wood. I'm thinking about doing that when I get my hhkb in.

FILCO Medium Leather Palm Rest or 3-star Handmade Leather Palm Rest (Medium)?

I can't justify spending that much cash on a simple wrist rest, so I got the 3M ones on the cheap (~$20 or less). Good reviews. They have a particularly long one that covers both a keyboard and mouse which is perfect for me, but it's still dwarfed by the ripper xxl..

If it is, its too long for me. I want one the length of the kb or close to it.

The medium rest is about 4" longer than the HHKB.  There were some custom made rests for the HHKB, but they were only available in Asia.  I still suggest cutting a cheap one if you want a custom fit.

We ask EliteKeyboards for Double Shot keys and Italian Red Minis and what do we get?

Thicker more expensive wristrests.....

lol.  I just got my 3star medium wrist rest today with a Filco Tenkeyless Linear Force NKRO in the mail from elitekeyboards.

My impressions (if anyone is interested): It's a wrist rest.  Seriously though, I can agree that it makes absolutely no sense to spend 68US+Shipping+CustomsTax for a wrist rest, but as far as wrist rests go, it screams quality.

The metal base that is hiding under the leather must be very thick, because this wrist rest is quite hefty.  It is capable of giving a would-be intruder a sound thrashing.  The leather smells so genuine that I can almost hear the cow still mooing.  The white stitching around the perimeter looks cool but I wonder how it will look after a while... it will probably start to age and look dirty.  The pad itself is very firm, and much different from using a foam pad like the Allsop brand one I have.

I wish that the base of the pad had some sort of rubber feet or something, because the leather alone cannot keep the pad firmly planted.  It can slide around rather easily.  I suppose that it is not really an issue when you have your arms resting on it, but I digress.  Overall, I'm glad I got it because the Filco sits kind of high so typing without a rest can be uncomfortable.   Looks really classy on the desk.

P.S.  You know this is a niche item when this is how the packaging looks like:

can anyone compare the 3star medium with the filco medium? does the indent in the filco affect it negatively?

"But Majestouch, you already sell leather palm rests from FILCO! What are you trying to pull?"

There are some posts comparing the two.

just read that the 3 star leather rest needs to be kept away from heat. its on the url above. this might be a problem as i use my hhkb on top my laptop keyboard and have my wrist rest directly in front of it. it gets warm but not hot.

Warm like a real live cow? My laptop will melt a chocolate bar in under 20 mins (had to throw it in the freezer!), and M&Ms melt in my hands right quick, but I don't think either is warm enough to appreciably speed up the evaporative process of oils in leather; your laptop might be a hotplate though, so I can't be the judge. If you're dealing with a lot more heat than what comes off your hands then I wouldn't recommend putting anything on your laptop; as it might overheat.

In most cases I'd say that if you're caring for your palm rest like you would a good pair of leather shoes or a jacket, then it will last a long time; i.e. keeping it clean and an occasional wipe down with leather cream/moisturizer. My only concern in using the medium rest with a laptop is that it would be too big.

The oils from your hand should stop the leather from cracking. Just swipe your hand over it as if to wipe off dust, and that will help preserve it. (This is a trick used by straight razor users for keeping their strop in good shape.)

I was going to say rub the whole length down vigorously, but that might force ripster to make a crude comment.

Or you can always use one of the many "leather food" products to ensure the leather stays good.
