Did Unicomp sue Apple?
« on: Sat, 06 November 2010, 13:40:27 »
I found this interesting clause in an article on-line:

Quote
On October 20, 2009, Apple was forced to rename the Mighty Mouse the Apple Mouse due to legal issues regarding the name.

I know that Unicomp offered a Mighty Mouse keyboard before Apple's computer mouse. Did they perhaps persue legal action against Apple about the name?

There was also an iphone before Apple did it.  In fact, there was already i-everything before Apple did it, unfortunately Apple still hasn't released the iBelt for Steve Jobs.

I shouldn't give iSteve such a hard time.  I guess it's my reaction to the years of listening to Apple culture piss and moan about Microsoft beating them at their own game for so many years.  Now that Apple is in the limelight and a leader in some areas, they have become the same monster that the esoteric fruit nommers used to despise.  A proprietary monster that you can't change your battery or insert a flash memory card into.  But I'm grateful for iSteve and Woz and all of their minons.  They've definitely made technology much more interesting and caused everyone else to step up, which is how it should be.

As for the Mighty Mouse, Unicomp was probbaly the least of their concerns.

Steve Jobs is a businessman.
He's not an innovator, he's not a designer, he's not an artist, he's not a programmer, he's not a hardware designer, etc.
He manipulates money and moves it around in the right areas; he hires people to do the work and couldn't dare lift a finger himself (asides from popping a few propaganda keynotes here and there like a religious leader). He simply says "I want a silver box that's stripped down to minimalism regardless if it causes inconveniences for the user, and that also uses the same hardware as PCs as there is really no difference aside from exterior and software".

EDIT: if it's worthy to add, he steals IBM's employees, and technologies from other companies (xerox *cough cough*).

I never found him terribly inspiring. All he did was take the PC and put it in a different case with a higher price tag (Greed much?). Oh, and decided to revive the PCjr keyboard on all macs.

Maybe some day someone will come along and make a PROPER computer. No stupid windows or unix suck-offs.

I don't many who can present as he does though. Like Seth Godin said, this may as well be what is keeping Apple going.

2009 was especially scary to my AAPL stock.

Yes. I wonder who good Apple is going to do after Steve Jobs leaves. Let's face it: Steve Jobs is Apple.

I think EverythingIBM should be sued by IBM and renamed "TheDellDude".

this, my friends, is why jpeg is better than GIF or PNG

If you look it up it is a sad story indeed.

That looks like ****, but that has nothing to do with file format.

But, jpeg doesnt support transparency ...  Again, best tool (format) for the job. I use png a lot.

Judging by Apple's opinion on keyboard quality, I gotta agree with you there.

Actually, Apple licensed the name from those guys. They got sued by someone else - not Unicomp, but an obscure company that made a special easy-to-clean mouse for hospitals.

EDIT: The company that sued was "Man & Machines", a company from Maryland, and they won, despite Apple licensing the cartoon trademark from CBS.

The general rule of the legal profession is to soak the rich.
Unless of course you are a Republican.

The general rule of Democrats is 'don't work...let the government take care of you'. After all, those who do work are the ones paying for it.

Yea but Chrysler got bought by Fiat who is looking to make a comeback in the US in 2012. Personally, I'm looking forward to that.
