« on: Sun, 16 June 2024, 03:42:55 »

Hello friends, this is my first time here so sorry if my post is missing some requirement or my english is not correct.

I'm writing this thread to see if anyone have same idea with me, carbonfiber keycap for mechanical keyboard, i've seen some other people making it, but it's just 1 or 2 blank carbon fiber caps. With help from other friends, i'm making full set keycap ( right now for my alice ) and want to share progress here with you guys.

I just want to share my progress with community for suggestion & advice. I will complete the thread with more detail later .

This is something I've literally thought about. I'm interested. Also, consider legends made of interesting materials like polished copper

Most metals don't take well to direct exposure to carbon fibre, and will result in galvanic corrosion given some time.
I hope that OP has thoroughly done some research as you'd likely need a heavy amount of resin in the matrix or to incorporate the CF within layers of CFRP to prevent such a thing from happening.

I've spent alot of time to improve keycaps, and yes, i know about these problems, just push some update :D

This should be fixable with a deeply inset groove and some resin, then set the legend metal on top, then more resin

Polished copper will have 2k automotive clear coat, and problem is gone ;) I'm sure it will look very expensive :D
