Where to buy Realforce 87U
« on: Tue, 02 November 2010, 03:42:14 »
Hi everyone,

I've been a long time reader of this forum but this is my first post.

Can someone please share ...

What is the difference between the black and white versions of the Realforce 87U ?

and...

Where i would be able to purchase one (color doesn't matter), other than from Korea or Japan.  Elitekeyboards are currently out of stock and they said stock probably won't replenish till next year.  I am in Sydney Australia.

Thanks very much !

There's only 1 store I know of that carries the 87U at this point in time...

that's http://www.leopold.co.kr
these guys took 1 month to reply to my email... in english...
but it referred me to some guy from leopold japan, which doesn't have a website.
Maybe someone has purchased from them and can shed some light as to how they did it, and hoops involved.

The other place is yahoo japan. very hard, and you need a buying service.
There's lots of buying services though. 87U in it's english variation rarely pops up cause for some crazy reason, the japanese prefer using japanese layout keyboards :)

If you are looking for the variable weighted Topre Realforce Tenkeyless. The 86U should be fine.

I did a google search on korean buying services, only found 1. they didn't even own their own domain.

Yep i'm aware of the difference between 86U and 87U.  But the white 87U seems to have an extra LED on the left Ctrl key which the black 87U does not ? which just made me wonder if there are any more differences ?

Anyways, i was hoping to purchase a 87U without using a buying service.

Really ... is there no english store in the world who current sell the 87U with international shipping ? :(

I had 2, then sold both to Geekhackers.  Then bought one back from one, then sold it again.  Freaking Topres, I can't ever make up my mind about them.

Though I know it's hard to wait, there's been talk of new Realforce models to be available in the UK (and maybe the US) by the end of this month.

Nothing definite yet though.

I think that some folks are hoping for a black 86U...and some are bitter that the 86U lacks some features that the 87U has. I agree with you though, the 86U seems like a fine tenkeyless to me...

I had a black 87U and sold it a while back on eBay. I recently bought an 86U (white) from Elitekeyboards and like it quite a bit. Longer space bar on the 86U is nicer IMO.

I sorta miss the all 55g keys though I'm certainly getting used to the variable weighted ones.

I've never seen a white all 55G distributed in the USA. Maybe someday? I'd buy one whether it's a 86U or 87U.

White 87u for me please.

The 86u lacks the "extras" of the 87u and it has 30g pinky keys which I would bump continually on a 103u that they shipped to me with 30g keys (I assume it was an early 103u based on the 101 which did have 30g pinky keys as well).   On variable 87u's with 35g pinky keys I never had an issue bumping them.

For the price of them there is no reason they shouldn't come with everything the 87u has and more.  You'd think it would come with everything high end Northgates used to but they don't.

$300 bucks there with 2-3 months backlog too for the 55g version.
Verified by way of my gf and her cousin in Korea. I received my 87U today. Hoops involved? Payment via a credit card issued by a Korean bank. That was it.

Nice, but it's not in USA unfortunately.  And they only seem to have black on that site, not white with red esc key and all the fixins.

lovenoodles,

My black Realforce 87U ranks up there in the top 3 of my all-time favourite keyboards.

When I can't pound on my 84-key PC AT Model F, I use a variable weighted Realforce 87U - probably the most comfortable keyboard ever.  I can literally type for hours without finger fatigue.  I've tried the all 55g version but I prefer the variable weighted model and find it much more comfortable to type on for extended periods.

I purchased a couple 87Us last year:  one I use regularly at my home office and one as a backup which I'm highly unlikely to ever need.  I will probably need to replace my HHKB Pro 2 (which gets beat up pretty good every week) long before I wear out my 87U.

If you are potentially interested in purchasing a NIB (really NIB, not "lightly used with box") black Realforce 87U, PM me and I'll e-mail you some pics.  It also has has the acrylic keyboard roof.  Not sure of shipping costs to Down Under.  I mailed a Chicony KB-5181 to the Netherlands today via Priority Int'l mail (est. 7-10 days) with total postage fees of $48.30 USD, but I'm not sure if thats comparable with shipping to Australia.

Cheers mate
Emperor of the IBM 84-key AT Model F Darkside
