Gaming keyboard

Hi,

I am currently using some microsoft keyboard with ps2 atm.

I recently bought a steelseries 6gv2, and I didnt like it at all. I like my keys to feel like buttons, not switches where you guess the actuation.

Ideally I want a keyboard with a standard layout (no extra keys and different sized keys to the standard layout,) has the option of ps/2 (iv used ps/2 for the last 5 yrs of gamin so I wanna keep it that way) and not mechanical.

The problem is I dont think such a keyboard exists.

Thanks.

It's just that my old membrane was so sucky.

So it was cast out! Hallelujea!

($10--I just wasn't expecting much for that price, btw)

lol thanks,

price isnt a concern, I wont be able to get it from newegg either as im in Australia.

I wish I liked the mechanical switches in the 6gv2, but I just find the rubber dome better, probably becuz iv been using one for so long. I just like the fact its basically an on/off switch, no inbetween.

Btw what does it mean if I press wasd at the same time and it only registers 2-3 keys, whereas if I press zxcv at the same time, it will always register all four.

If there is no advantage in buying that keyboard over my 6 yr old microsoft one, I may aswell stick with it, unless that gaming keyboard has NKRO.

"The best reason is Mechanical Keyboards just feel better and they will make you more efficient at gaming/typing" Im starting to question my own thoughts :/

Edit: Just read over the NKRO guide and all rubber domes are 2key, unless theres a rubber dome one hiding in the list.

The Microsoft Sidewinder x4 is NKRO + rubber dome, but USB (not PS/2).

Maybe you should try different mechanical board? The 6gv2/7g is only one type of switch (linear), and most mechanical keyboards have some sort of tactile feedback, so I'd say your mechanical keyboard is not the norm...

Yer, a tactile feedback (brown switch) may work for me, as then I actually know when the key has actuated.

USB cant be NKRO?

Actually, X4 has patented technology to support NKRO over USB.

http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=9230

But it has its own set of ghosting issues. So instead of losing keys, it will add keys

lol, its a shame mechanical keyboards dont adapt the feel of an on/off key. Dome keyboards are like 0.5 mil for actuation, instead of 2. Yer iv convinced myself that I prefer dome over mechanical, what a shame.

So I should stay with my microsoft keyboard (that registers 2 keys if I press wasd together) if I want a dome ps2 keyboard? The reason I care about this is cuz I play at comps at a pro level for first person shooters, and I play a bit of rts aswell.

there isnt, I have one, but theyre usually only 2kro, and I wanted more :/

Initially I thought if I pressed wasd at once and only 2 keys registered was that the keyboard is faulty.

With the definitions I'm familiar with, adding keys IS ghosting. It's not present on most boards because the rollover is limited to prevent it...except in this case, where it apparently isn't limited enough or just done properly.

USB is limited to 6KRO, IIRC (trying to remember if that includes modifier keys or not). It's also polled rather than interrupt-based. Two things that make PS/2 the preferable keyboard interface, if you have the option, but that doesn't make USB downright horrible or anything.

If you want Cherry MX Brown or Blue, there's the NKRO Filcos and Das Model S, but you're looking at well over US$100 for either of them.

Nah, we had discussion about this recently. Dunno if some good soul has Wiki-ed the outcome.

The X4 got 11KRO which is "that special feat" that it has accomplished. Since no one has 11 fingers, it is listed as NKRO in the Wiki.

It was once supposed to be 24KRO or some other absurdly high number like that for no good reason. But apparently they did experience ghosting issues when going over 11KRO with USB. That is 11KRO without modifiers btw.

The previous version of the X4, the X6 had those ghosting issues because they aimed too high with the rollover.

I think everyone is heading into the mire of details now.

If the OP wants a rubber dome with NKRO there is only one choice.

The Microsoft Sidewinder X4.

Or, a Topre.

Certainly solves the issue of guessing where the actuation is at.
