Let me get this straight.

I got sick of Webwit's personal attacks against people (including me) for being cheap. So, I reported one that was particularily nasty. What's the worst that can happen? iMav will come and give him a warning? He deserves it!

Not for a keyboard. Every one of Webwit's keyboards I've seen is kept in tip-top shape in its own little box. I wish I had enough boxes to do that to what I've got.

So... You attach this to a Model M to monitor the amount of bull**** that gets pumped out of it?

Or attach it to this thread to measure how far we have trended off topic.  Nothing like a good thread derail for some serious entertainment though, and this one deserves an emmy.

I can assure you that the thread has derailed.

What about offering honorary, one decent Industrial Model M mini to the newbies?

I seriously doubt you're going to find many people who have them who are willing to part with them.

On a more positive note, I have in my possession my first mechanical board. A full size Filco with blue cherries, it is brilliant.  I do notice however that I have horrible typing habits, and that the "sloppiness" inherent in my old boards helped me to have less typos.  These mechanical boards have such a perfectly precise action, I have to really concentrate on hitting the keys perfectly.  This board sure rewards a light touch, and even in the time it took me to post this (my first typing with this board), I have already started to get better lightening up and finding the tactile point.

Thanks so much for all of your help in finding my first board.  The other 3 switched I have in mind are brown cherries, BS, and Topre.

Oh no! There's no chance for you; It's all decided for you; This world has many sweet keyboards set aside for you.

Maybe one of your industrial minis? No?, I didn't think so :-(

Seeing as though that is probably the 15th time I have seen you post a Zooey Deschanel reference, video or picture, I am guessing you have seen 500 days of summer?  Did you like it?  I thought the soundtrack was fantastic.

I had the same experience moving from
  • a Camaro to a MR2.
  • an ARP synthesizer to an aftertouch MIDI keyboard.
The sloppiness and errors in my driving/keyboarding techniques were mercilessly revealed by the more precise hardware.

Oh, Grammar Police warning: fewer typos, less error.

Awesome.  Would the MR2 be the influence in your username?

Ha!  I tried to make that joke some time back resulting in an epic fail.  It's actually a style of music (I learned it as "ricecare").  I'm glad to see that we're on the same wavelength, though.

Why don't you get one?  They're not bad price-wise.

: ) yeah, I know. But a NIB mini would be ideal. I doubt that they would come down in price as they are so rare and there seems to be a fair amount of demand for them.

I didn't know they even existed until recently, and now they are all over geekhack.

Maybe its me, but the industrial mini has some serious geek cred.

The Model M mini NIB is OK for me.
The Model M industrial mini *used* is desired and acceptable.

But an imaginary IBM Model M 'mini' in stealth black or glossy black color and trackpoint would be DIVINE. Especially if someone put capacitative buckling spings ala model F inside then we would be in HEAVEN.

Ah, but since it has Windows keys - and it says IBM on it, and not Unicomp - not only do I know we're not in Heaven, I strongly suspect that it isn't divine either.

Yes, it's by IBM. Yes, it has a trackpoint. Yes, it's black. But does it really have buckling springs? If so, I would be very much surprised - and such a keyboard would be a true rarity of immense value.

If it's rubber dome, as I suspect, then it is just a cruel mockery...

I know this is quite the necro I apologize, but I believe it would be smarter to put it in here then create a new thread.

Anyways on to what I have to say. I am aware quite a few members here have Industrial IBM Model M mini's / spacesavers and quite a few of you have multiples.... My proposistion to those of you is if you willing to part with one of them to me (it would be amazing if the date was july 3rd, 1990 by the way..) I am located in Southern California for what its worth.

I could simply offer you $ or you give me a price.. or I have a Industrial IBM Model M (non-space saver) perhaps we can do a 1 for 1 trade or if you will, have cash on top of that keyboard as well. Please get back to me via pm or here if you want.

Thanks in advance ~
