Looking for a second keyboard
« on: Sun, 16 January 2011, 20:18:12 »
Hi, folks!  Ever since my ABS M1 taught me not to buy keyboards with ALPS switches any more, I have been using a full-size Filco with Cherry Blues.  That board went to work after I changed jobs, so now I'm back on the M1 at home, looking for something new to use there once again.

At first I considered waiting for EKB to start stocking Leopold boards, but I'm concerned that it will be a while before any non-tenkeyless models make it there.  I could also import another Filco from Keyboard Co, but after shipping that will run nearly 200 USD, plus whatever customs decides to charge me.  I'm also wondering about a RealForce board; coming from Cherry Blues, do you suspect I would end up liking or disliking a board that uses Topre switches?

What do you people recommend I go with?
Currently using:  Filco Cherry Blue, ABS M1
Retired:  IBM Model M (ca. 1993), random Dell and Logitech keyboards

If you don't need NKRO, I'd say snag one of the PLU boards from TaoBao, using a service like Obook. This should run you roughly $70 + shipping from China, through Obook. DHL shipping on a significantly larger order that I just placed was ~$45, so I'd think something like just this keyboard should set you back somewhere in the area of $100 total.

A few of us have ordered their tenkeyless model, my order hasn't made it here yet, but you can see others' pics here.
