Help picking my first mechanical keyboard
« on: Tue, 04 January 2011, 00:12:35 »
I don't think I've ever used a mechanical keyboard before, so I'm not familiar with how they feel exactly. I picked out this keyboard: http://amzn.to/feeZMq
But as I was reading through the Geekhack Mechanical Keyboard Guide, I found out that this is probably another type of rubber dome keyboard. So can someone help me pick out a mechanical keyboard?
I am looking for one that has backlighting and I'm willing to pay up to $200.
Thanks for any help

that logitech claims to have PerfectStroke, a superior scissor mechanism.

yes it's scissors over rubber domes, but the feel should be smoother and with longer travel. if you do end up getting it, i'd love to hear your opinion.

meanwhile, please tell us what you mainly plan to use your keyboard for (e.g., heavy typing, gaming of different sorts, etc... :)

there's a discussion going on over here about boards without backlighting, but it might shed some light on the general considerations...

hey everyone, spare a link to suggested gaming boards *with* backlighting? :)

edit: here's a link to the part of the wiki with reviews of popular models. that might also help.

edit 2: annnnd the Backlit discussion thread :)
