Need Help On Choosing Some Gaming Mech's

Hi i've been reading alot about mechs, especially for gaming, and i need help on choosing between a few.

The Razer BW or BW Ultimate (backlighting would be a neat feature)
SteelSeries 7G or 6G v2
Tt Esports Meka G1. ( is currently no available in Holland or even Europe for that matter)

What most confuses me is Black or Blue, which i think are the 2 most used switches here (not included BS), I game alot but typing for school is also a need. If you read about it some people say that Blue's are not to be used for gaming but some say they work just as good if you get used to them. Blacks however would suck at typing.

So, Help....

Btw, the price difference between most of the boards isnt a problem as it is gonna be a present for my birthday.

I can recommend the Das Keyboard Model S (not on your list, but hey) for both typing and gaming.

The Blues are very light when compared with rubber domes, which I find very pleasant for FPS.

The Das also offers NKRO (over PS2) which certainly isn't bad for gaming either...

I think NKRO isnt nescessity, 6KRO like the BW has on the most used cluster would be sufficient for me. And ps/2 doesnt offer macro or other software stuff right?

And living and buying online in holland has one big advantage. By law you may return any product within 7 days of recieving it without you paying for it. Thus i can try a Black switch and dislike it without feeling sorry for my buy.

If you ordered the Das in Germany at getdigital.de you would have by European law 14 days to give it back. But they're giving you four weeks!

what type of gaming are you planning on doing?

I play a lot of rts (specifically starcraft) and I like the feel of the blue for that, and also it works well with typing.

the blackwidow is a great entry into mechanical keyboards (in my opinion, I've not been around here for more than a day ), it's a good price and, for me anyway, opened the door to looking at more expensive stuff only because I knew that I liked the feel and would spend money on something better. I think it's a great place to start even if you don't care about price.

I agree absolutely in terms of 6KRO via usb is fine. On the other hand I had a "gaming cluster" optimised Razer keyboard before I finally ended up with my Filco and it was unusable in gaming terms for me due to it's lack of key roll over.

I guess all I am saying is that make sure you check the key combinations you need to use against the BW boards before buying.

On the other hand the backlighting and the macro software is definitely a plus if you like and use it.

I Play fps, racing, some rts and rpg's so just gaming in general.
And what arc2 says is ofcourse quite important, i dont like a keyboard that is good build but isnt usefull for gaming. What does the Das have what others dont?

Nothing really, except for NKRO, but I can definitely recommend it as a great keyboard from my own experience.

The Das is also one of the only mainstream recognizable mechanical keyboards. At least here in the US it is.

Well, if you get the blank one, anyway. People just seem to see it, and recognize it for what it is. And then get frustrated because they can't read the keys.

The black widow is still just 2KRO, the "optimized" cluster still has combinations of 3 that don't work, I just forget what offhand. For gaming, I prefer tactile switches over linear, blues and browns actually let you know when you hit the key, while with blacks/reds there's no real indication when the activation happens, you either bottom out or assume when exactly it's pressed. For MMO's, RTS games, and rhythm games I really want to know exactly when I hit the key, I suppose it's less important for most FPS games since you'll be holding keys more than repeatedly pressing them.

I haven't tried blacks yet myself, but to me it seems that when gaming and typing must be mixed, brown switches are the obvious choice. They offer some tactility and aren't heavy.

I have two boards with blue switches, personally I hate them for gaming because the release is higher up than the actuation, sweet for typing though. I like my Filco with browns for everything.
